- Step 1: Preprocess the fresh turmeric

Wash thoroughly to remove soil and sand.

Peel the skin and slice thinly (helps with blending and filtering).

Optionally, soak the turmeric in diluted salt water for about 10 minutes to remove sap.

- Step 2: Blend

Put the sliced turmeric into the blender.

Add water (ratio 1:1 – turmeric to water).

Blend until smooth and slurry-like.

- Step 3: Filter to extract turmeric juice

Pour the turmeric mixture through a clean cloth.

Squeeze hard to extract the juice and discard the pulp.

You may filter again with a fine stainless steel sieve to remove remaining solids.

- Step 4: Let the starch settle

Let the turmeric juice sit undisturbed in a bowl for 4–6 hours.

Once the starch settles to the bottom, gently pour off the clear water above.

If a dark orange layer remains above the starch, rinse again 1–2 times.

- Step 5: Rinse the starch

Add clean water to the settled starch, stir gently, and let settle again.

Repeat this 2–3 times until the top water is completely clear.

Purpose: to remove turmeric oil and compounds that may cause liver heat.

- Step 6: Dry the starch

Drain the water and collect the starch from the bottom.

Spread the starch evenly on a clean tray, sun-dry for 1–2 days or dry at low heat (50–60°C) until completely dry.

Once dried, grind finely by hand or using a dry grinder.
